...the place to be in Northwest Arkansas

The smell of tabacco smoke on clothing can trigger an asthma attack. I wonder how many parents think about how they are harming their children's health when they smoke. You see, I work as a Respiratory Care Particitioner and hear the stories almost everyday. 'Oh, we don't smoke in the house - we go outside'. The smell of tobacco on clothing is enough to trigger an asthma attack or even worst. Elderly parents staying with their children who have COPD, Emphysema, and other breathing problems are also at risk when their children smoke in or outside the home. What happened to respect of our elders.

People that come into the hospital visiting loved ones should think twice before carrying tobacco smoke into the hospital on their clothing. Not only are they potentially harming their loved ones but they are also potentially harming everyone who has to smell their clothing and some people who smoke seem to carry a lot of tobacco smell on their skin and clothing.

Hospital workers who smoke should be penalized or fined if they smoke on the job.

It is in your best interest if you stop smoking now. It is the one thing that can improve your overall health if you stop smoking.

i agree that smokers should be trying to quit, but i think that penalizing people who work at hostpitals for smoking, and telling people to bathe and change clohtes after smoking to keep the tobacco out of the nostrals of others is kinda silly.

Just as many health problems can be blamed on other pollutants in the air, such as car fumes, you dont see many people doing anything about that. And why is it still legal to sell greasy fried foods at restaurants, when the leading cause of death in the US is Heart Disease.

You can poke and prod at the smokers all you want, but every person on earth is contributing the each other's health problems. Think of all the great healthcare professionals we would lose if you penalized them for smoking, and think of all the patients who wouldnt get the best of care because their doctor or nurse has been having a nic-fit.

I do agree that smoking is bad, but i think that your suggestions to the problem are a bit radical, especially since our country really isnt doing much about the pollution problem caused by gasoline, or the obesety problem caused by our fast food appetite, both of which cause many bad health conditions.

P.S. parents with children with asthma should definitly consider quitting, and if they cant, should try at least putting some kind of covering like a jacket on when they smoke, just to help combat the effect a bit.

Radical change in this country is what we need. Yes, perhaps my suggestion is absurd and Yes, I agree everyone on earth is contributing to each others's health problems and this is my very point. We have to begin somewhere to ultimately find a solution to a few of the problems we face.

I wonder how many people know about a realtively new law in Arkansas that says 'it is illegal to smoke in a moving vechile with an underage child'?

i was aware that that law was passed in some places, but didnt know if it had been passed in Arkansas
but if a kid is in the car, you dont need to be smoking, i mean, you wouldnt smoke in the house so why would you smoke in the car with a kid in it.

the only thing dangerous about cigarrette smoke is the pesticide DDT that was used on the tobacco leaves which causes cancer not the smoke. and the flavour and aging chemical which is use to cure the tobbacco leaves

Perhaps a lesson in Lung Disease might be beneficial. There is alot of misinformation about tobacco smoke and the harm that it does. Many smokers simply ignore the truth and they die because they simply cannot remove enough carbon dioxide from their blood or get enough oxygen into their blood. The carbon particles in tobacco smoke is very jagged and as it is inhaled and exhaled it tears the delicate tissues of the lung. Over a period of years the chemicals within the smoke as well as the carbon particles destroy the delicate membranes within the lung.
COPD and emphysema are the most common terms spoken by doctors. People who have smoked for 10,15,20,25,30,40 years often beginning getting short of breath by the age of 35-40 years. If you smoke 1 pack a day for 20 years and you started smoking when you were 15 years of age you most likely will begin to get short of breath or have other breathing difficulties by the time you are 35 years of age. If you started off life with breathing difficulties like asthma and you begin smoking at any age you are signing your own death certificate. If you are age 20-65 try walking 1 mile at a brisk pace (3 mph) . If you stop at any time to catch your breath your health is at risk.
